Anger Management Games: Valuable Tools in Helping People Control Their Anger
We experience several emotions every day. One of the more common emotions is anger. Anger can range from simple annoyance to physical rage. Anger is a natural emotion. In fact, anger is considered a healthy emotion if it is expressed correctly. Anger that is improperly expressed can have dire consequences. It can affect family and professional relations. Ultimately, anger that is not managed or controlled can severely affect an individual's quality of life.
One way people who have a hard time managing or controlling their anger can help themselves is to attend any of the various anger management courses available. Anger management courses provide people with the tools to help them change their attitude and how they respond to things, people and situations that may causes them to become angry. Remember that most people are unable to control their anger if they are also unable to control their lives and accept things that go against their wishes or wants.
Anger management courses make use of games to teach people another way of thinking and controlling their feelings of anger. Anger management games are used with the purpose of making people realize that it is impossible for them control everything that goes on in their lives. Anger management games teach people how to properly deal with things instead of giving in to their feelings of frustration and anger.
One particular anger management game is called "Luck of the Roll." Anywhere between 3 and 15 people can play. The game works by rolling the dice. Each player rolls the dice and receives a price depending on the number they roll. Some players may get three or four prizes while some many not get any prize at all. While the game is going on, a counselor observes each player, noting their behavior.
When the game ends, the group discusses the game and each player shares how they felt about the prizes they got or didn't get, as well as how each person handled any feelings of anger they felt during the game. This session helps people to understand their reactions or responses in unfavorable situations. Those who reacted positively are praised and become good examples to the others.
Another anger management game is called "The Board Game Challenge" and any kind of board game can be played. This particular game focuses on good sportsmanship towards team members and opponents in a competitive situation. To bring out the competitive spirit in everyone, the game is played with money at stake. The person who has the most money in the end wins the game.
Again, a discussion is held at the end of the game. Participants discuss about and share their feelings during the game. Some of the things they can talk about include how they felt when they lost, why they wanted to win, if they felt angry during the game, and if they did, how they handled their anger, how they felt about their competitors, and how they would have felt if money was not at involved in the game.
By following up each game with a discussion, people are encouraged to be more accepting of their mistakes. It's also a good way to show good and bad examples of how to respond or react to anger.
